Lab2: Single Photon Interference
نویسنده
چکیده
The wave-particle duality of light was verified by multi and single photon interference both through Young’s double slit and Mach-Zehnder interferometer. In these two sets of experiments, the interference in the single photon level is the same as that at multi photons level with long enough exposure time. In the Mach-Zehnder interferometer, the “whichpath” information can be identified by measuring the polarization of each path. With the knowledge of this information, there is no interference, which proves the duality of light as particle and wave.

Time-Resolved Two-Photon Quantum Interference
The interference of two independent single-photon pulses impinging on a beam splitter is analysed in a generalised time-resolved manner. Different aspects of the phenomenon are elaborated using different representations of the single-photon wave packets, like the decomposition into single-frequency field modes or spatio-temporal modes matching the photonic wave packets. Both representations lea...
متن کاملTwo-photon interference of temporally separated photons
We present experimental demonstrations of two-photon interference involving temporally separated photons within two types of interferometers: a Mach-Zehnder interferometer and a polarization-based Michelson interferometer. The two-photon states are probabilistically prepared in a symmetrically superposed state within the two interferometer arms by introducing a large time delay between two inpu...
متن کاملHow to Measure the Nonlocal Phase of a Single Photon
The relative phase between spatially separated component waves of a single photon can be measured by joint interference with a second photon emitted by a known source. In the case of a single such phase (i.e. two component waves), the probability for a successful measurement is one half. This method can be implemented with current experimental techniques.

In this work, we analyze the behavior of continuum single-photon, two-photon and coherent states in some quantum communication schemes. In particular, we consider the single-photon in a Mach-Zenhder interferometer, the Hong-Ou-Mandel interference, the quantum bit commitment protocol and a new protocol for secure transmission of sampled analog signals. Furthermore, it is shown an equation for es...
متن کاملScheme for proving the bosonic commutation relation using single-photon interference.
We propose an experiment to directly prove the commutation relation between bosonic annihilation and creation operators, based on the recent experimental success in single-photon subtraction and addition. We devise a single-photon interferometer to realize coherent superpositions of two sequences of photon addition and subtraction. Depending on the interference outcome, the commutation relation...
